project manager for an application which models the operation of an oil refinery.
This project contains several challenging requirements, including the application

a data validation tool which monitors the ERP database and looks for data entry

Scholarship App: I created
an application to manage college scholarships. This application allows personnel
to monitor the status of scholarships and generate mailing lists of both donors

Contact Management App:
I created a contact management application which keeps detailed, up-to-date information
on tens of thousands of county residents. This is a multi-user application with
heavy transaction processing activity. (SQL Server, MS Access)
Veeco Instruments – Goleta,

MRP Application: I created
an MRP application which collected order information from the corporate ERP system
and produced the daily manufacturing plan. (MS Access, Pointman)

Product Database: I created
a product database which manages all sales and marketing data. This is a multiuser
database used by several people at various locations. (MS Access, Pointman)

Product Catalog: I produced
several editions of the Veeco Probes product catalog in both print and electronic
form. To do so, I created an application which automatically generated catalog pages,
with images, from the product database. (MS Access, Adobe Acrobat)

Corporate Website: I was
fully responsible for the Veeco Probes website. During my management of the site,
we completely overhauled the site, updating the look & feel, and adding dynamic
content generated from the product database. (ASP, Windows Server, SQL Server)

SAP Implementation: I prepared
the Veeco Probes division for the transition from Pointman to SAP. I was responsible
for converting data from the Pointman data model to the SAP data model. I was also
responsible for training employees on the new business procedures. (SAP)

Data Analyses: At Veeco,
I was responsible for producing ad-hoc data analyses requested by various departments.
In that capacity, I contributed to the Probe division’s long-term strategic plan.
I also produced weekly metrics used to monitor the performance of the operations
and marketing departments.

Six Sigma: I participated
in a Six Sigma project designed to improve the yield for a specific product. The
project was successful and I earned Six Sigma certification.

Data Modeling Instruction:
I taught the course Data Modeling and Relational Database Design. The course
covers entity relationship diagramming in depth and touches on database design using

MS Access Instruction: I
taught a series of MS Access courses called Developing Applications in MS Access.
The courses covers topics ranging from relational database design through front-end
programming. I created the entire curriculum, including all lectures, notes, and

One of my courses, Programming in Access, is actually a Visual Basic course.
Course topics include programming theory, form design, Active X controls, object
oriented programming, using the Data Access Objects, and using class modules. (VBA

ERP Application: I made
numerous improvements to a custom accounting / inventory management system. This
multi-user application is used to maintain all information on customers, products,

Activity Based Costing Analysis:
I designed and created a cost accounting database used to quantify and forecast
company-wide project costs. This analysis was used to quantify the benefit of embracing

I created an application to monitor employee hours. This application used Oracle
for the back-end. (Oracle, MS Access)

Human Resources Reporting:
I created ad hoc reports for the HR department. To produce these reports, I built
an interface to the PeopleSoft Human Resources database. (Crystal Reports, Visual
Basic 6.0)

Project Report Cards: I
created an application which collected project status information from all project
managers. To submit their information, managers were able to use a simple Excel

created and taught UC Extension’s main series of MS Access courses. I produced 12
full-day classes, including 4 days of instruction in Visual Basic programming. (MS

and developed an accounts payable database for the Visual Merchandising department.
